Roza Dance Company consists of choreographer Shani Karni Aduculesi & dancers. The Company’s works has a variety of soft nuanced movements that reveal the different aspects of humanity, as well as movements that are dynamic and push the physicality of the human body. The approach is an intriguing work of story telling.
Born and raised in Israel. Shani started her dance training with the acclaimed European ballet dancer Kay Lutman at his professional dance school in Haifa, Israel. She continued her professional dance training at the Haifa Dance Development Institute. Shani attended The Kibbutzim College Of Education in Tel- Aviv, Israel where she obtained a B.ED in Dance & Education and an encompassing teaching certificate. She received an M.A in Performance Dance from the University of Chichester in the UK. Living in three different countries throughout her career, Shani had the opportunity to study and work with internationally acclaimed choreographers, musicians and artists. Shani has extensive experience teaching and choreographing in Israel, UK and USA. Shani is also a certified Pilates Instructor who works in a somatic approach and enjoys teaching a wide range of people of different physical abilities. Shani moved to New York in 2008 and in 2009 founded Roza Dance Company. The company has taken part in various festivals, showcases and events around NY. Among them are: 60x60 dance project, Movement Research Open Performance, several events by Arts East NY, The Israel Folk Dance Festival in NYC, Parparim Ensemble Kaleidoscope Program at Sunbury PA, WaxWorks at Williamsburg Art Nexus, Brooklyn, Hatch: The Works at The Jennifer Muller/The Works Studio, NY, Artist In Flight Performance Showcase in NYC (2016 & 2019), Fall Immersive Dance Festival, NY, Fertile Ground at Green Space in Queens (2018, 2021), and The 6th Annual Eating Disorder Awareness Show by Borne Dance Company.
For 4 years, Shani served as a judge of the Rikudiah - a dance competition for Jewish day schools from the tri-state area. For 6 years Shani was the coordinator of the Israel Folk Dance Festival and Festival of the arts.
Neverland - Roza Dance Company’s video dance which is a collaboration with the Poet and dance artist Dr. Tumi Johnson was chosen as an official selection for the 2022 Paradise Film Festival, Budapest Hungary.
In October 2022 Shani was commissioned by the Link Up program at Carnegie Hall, NYC, to create an adaptation and film an instructional video of the circle dance Shibolet Basade (originally choreographed by Leah Bergstein ) to a beautiful arrangement for a recorder to this song, composed by the renowned musician Tali Rubinstein.
Shannon grew up in Westchester County dancing through her life. She went on to study dance and economics at SUNY Binghamton University. After graduation she then went on to continue her training at Broadway Dance Center. In 2012 Shannon helped open Connecticut Dance Center in Stamford as Assistant Director. Students at CDC performed in The Nutcracker NYC, the NYC Dance Parade, and the CT Walk for Wishes. Shannon has recently completed her MA in Dance Education at NYU Steinhardt. She has performed with Aries in Flight, Alternative Arts Association, Rebecca Moore Dance, and Dance Kerr & Dancers. Shannon continues to teach creative movement, tap, and ballet in the Tri-State area. Shannon happily joined Roza Dance Company in 2016 and loves being a part of Shani’s creative process.
